Prosecutors file civil complaint in attack

By The Associated Press wire report November 21, 2008 10:44 AM

AUBURN -- State prosecutors have filed a civil complaint against a 26-year-old Lewiston man stemming from his assault on a black man last year.

The state attorney general's office is seeking an injunction against Joseph Turner to bar him from threatening or using violence motivated by a bias on race. The injunction would also order Turner to stay away from a Lewiston man he attacked on a bridge late one night in July 2007.

Police say Turner punched and kicked 31-year-old Anthony Hodge and yelled racial slurs after first making demeaning comments to a woman who was with Hodge.

Turner was convicted of assault for the attack and sentenced to 24 hours in jail.
