READFIELD -- State Police and the Maranacook Community School District are investigating an incident in which a student brought a weapon and other illegal materials to Maranacook Community High School.

Maranacook-area schools Superintendent Rich Abramson informed parents of the incident in a notice sent Friday. The student, who has not been identified, brought the weapon to the school on Tuesday.

"The weapon was not brandished about," Abramson wrote in the notice. "The Maine State Police responded immediately and no one was in immediate danger."

Abramson said the student was removed from the school building. The district's school committee will review the matter.

No further details were available late Friday.
