Bonny Eagle outscored Skowhegan 20-0 in the second half to win the Class A state football title for the second straight year with a 26-6 win Saturday night at frosty Fitzpatrick Stadium.
Bonny Eagle (10-2) trailed 6-0 in the second quarter before rallying behind quarterback Nate Doehler, halfback Josh Ruby and a stout defense. Doehler passed and ran for a touchdown apiece. Ruby scored two touchdowns and the defense shut down Skowhegan (10-2) in the second half.
Bonny Eagle tied the game at 6-6 on a 9-yard run by Ruby with 3:43 before halftime.
Ruby gave the Scots the lead for good with a 3-yard run with 6:20 in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Doehler threw an 18-yard scoring pass to Ryan Nason and scored on a 10-yard run.
Cody Vigue scored for Skowhegan on a 3-yard run early in the second quarter.
It was Bonny Eagle's fourth state title in five seasons. The Scots are a perfect 4 for 4 in state title games in a program that has been only playing Class A football since 1995.
Skowhegan was playing in its first state championship game since 1989.
