AUGUSTA -- Head coach Cindy Blodgett and the University of Maine women's basketball team will host the University of Massachusetts at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Augusta Civic Center.
Blodgett, a former University of Maine and Lawrence High School star, brings the 0-2 Black Bears to Augusta to face a UMass team which has already faced two America East teams. UMass beat the University of New Hampshire 67-51 and lost to Vermont 83-69.
The Black Bears are led by Valley High School graduate Kristin Baker, who played in many games at the Augusta Civic Center in the Western Maine Class D basketball tournament. In the Black Bears's second game of the season, a 65-57 loss to Central Connecticut, Baker had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Black Bears. Baker had two rebounds and one assist in Maine's 98-31 loss to Duke in the Black Bears season opener.
UMass (2-1) is led by Stephanie Gerardot. The 5-foot, 10-inch senior is averaging 22.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game for UMass.
Last season, UMass beat Maine 74-55 at the Mullin Center in Amherst, Mass. Kim Benton, who returns to this year's UMasss team, scored 13 points in that game.
