Pittsfield council meets tonight on roof woes

By Scott Monroe Morning Sentinel reporter November 24, 2008 04:12 PM

PITTSFIELD -- The Town Council will hold a special meeting tonight at 7 p.m. to discuss what to do about the crumbling roof over the Pittsfield Community Theatre.

A new report from the Sewall company of Old Town says the roof "is visibly stressed beyond its load capacity and public use of the building should be suspended."

The report lists options for repair, ranging from $180,000-$250,000 -- prices that are out of the question for the town.

Town officials are expected to discuss whether the theater space should be closed down for now and if there are any cheaper, short-term fixes for the roof.
