MERCER - A Mercer man climbed out of his Jeep Wrangler just in time this morning, then watched it wash away in rain-swollen Mercer Bog, police said.
State Police Trooper Diane Perkins-Vance said that Matthew Friedman, 36, was not injured.
Friedman was driving his Jeep west on Elm Street at around 5 a.m., Perkins-Vance said.
"The dirt road just gave way," the trooper said. "The Jeep went relatively quick after that. It looked like a raging stream earlier this morning but it's not, it's just a bog that feeds into Sandy Stream."
Crews were busy late this morning trying to remove the Jeep from the stream, where is had lodged against large branches, Perkins-Vance said.
Perkins-Vance said that the washout also took out a huge culvert and washed it downstream.
"The road is quite impressive," she said. "Where it's washed out, everything's gone."
