KENNEBUNK -- A landowner is teaming up with the Kennebunk Light and Power District and the Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Wells Water District to pursue a one-year wind power study.
The project includes the installation of a temporary tower and other equipment on Larry Dwight's land along Route 9. A data recording site will also be placed on top of one of the water district's water storage tanks in town.
The information gathered from these sites will help determine the feasibility of wind power generation on Dwight's property. The participants say the project could also provide useful information for others in coastal York County who are considering wind power generation.
The cost of the study is expected to be low, in part, because of the in-house technical abilities of the two utilities. The total cost of the project is expected to be about $7,000.
