The cheapest gas in the state can be found at stations in the Portland area this morning, according to the Web site MaineGasPrices.com.
Leading the way are three stations at $1.71 a gallon: The Irving on Commercial Street and Park Street in Portland; and the Irving at Westbrook Street and Western Avenue and the 7-Eleven on Main Street and Memory Lane, both in South Portland. Two more Irving stations on Main Street in South Portland are selling gas at $1.74.
More locally, a Sunoco station on Augusta-Rockland Road in Windsor is selling gas at $1.79.
The average price in Maine today is $2 a gallon, according to the Web site. A month ago the average was $2.71 and a year ago it was $3.
