The Kennebec River spilled over its banks today in downtown Augusta and Hallowell, but did not appear to be threatening any buildings.
In Augusta, a fast-moving and swollen river flooded a parking lot behind some downtown buildings. The water did not go over cement barriers that project buildings.
And in Hallowell, the new bulkhead was submerged and debris sat on top of the cement wall. The water did not get high enough to flood resident or business parking along the river.
The National Weather Service in Gray continued a flood warning for the Kennebec in Skowhegan, Augusta and North Sidney until this evening. The river is expected to fall below flood stage this afternoon.
