AUGUSTA -- Though the Friday after Thanksgiving is traditionally a day for people to flood malls and shopping centers to begin their Christmas shopping, the Augusta Police Department said scanners have been quiet when it comes to accidents in these high-traffic areas.

"It's actually fairly routine here today," an Augusta police dispatcher said. "Pretty quiet."

Many stores opened before sunrise today for shoppers looking for early holiday sales.
