By Edward D. Murphy Portland Press Herald Staff Writer November 28, 2008 11:57 AM

PORTLAND -- Police arrested a man who allegedly attacked another man with a meat cleaver early today.

Police said they arrested Jose Mendoza, 41, shortly after finding the victim, a 33-year-old man, at 845 Congress St., with injuries to his head and arms. The victim, who police did not identify, was admitted to Maine Medical Center.

Mendoza was charged with elevated aggravated assault.

Mendoza and the victim knew each other, police said, and the incident was not a case of random violence.
