STANDISH -- A local man, who was riding with a group of all terrain vehicle enthusiasts, had to be flown out of a remote area in Standish after his ATV rolled over Sunday afternoon.

Brent Libby, Standish's emergency rescue chief, said the man, who appeared to be around 60, was airlifted from the accident scene by Lifeflight helicopter and transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Libby, who would not release the man's name, said his injuries appeared to be non life threatening. The area, off the Middle Road, is remote, forcing rescuers to use ATVs to reach him.

Libby said the crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. while the group of ATV riders was traversing a trail near a sandpit. He was uncertain as to how the crash occurred, but did say that riding conditions were rough with a lot of standing water from the recent storm.
