GRAY -- A Gray man who police allege assaulted his girlfriend Saturday night during a domestic dispute at their home on Two Rod Road has turned himself in to Maine State Police.
After the assault, Michael Mains, 40, took off on foot, police say.
On Sunday night, a dispatcher for the state police barracks in Gray said Mains came to the barracks around 3:30 p.m. and surrendered without incident, nearly 24 hours after police asked for the public's help in locating him. Mains turned himself in after seeing a television report that police were looking for him, according to Trooper Chris Farley.
Mains was transported to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland, where he was booked on a charge of domestic violence assault.
