WESTBROOK -- Heather Pettis' little newborn girl just couldn't wait to get to the hospital. Really. She just could not wait any longer.
So she came into the world in the back of Westbrook's Rescue 2 ambulance on Nov. 28, instead of the delivery room.
Karl Harmon, Tony Cataldi and Ron Giroux, three of Westbrook's rescue workers, were there at the time the baby was born.
And to show her gratitude, Mrs. Pettis and her newborn girl will be among those who applaud the three men tonight at 6:30 p.m. for their special delivery.
Westbrook Police Chief William Baker said helping to bring life into the world "is a relatively rare, often a once-in-a-career type event." The kind of event that gives rescue workers the privilege to wear, on their lapel, "stork pins" and place on their rescue truck a "stork sticker."
