Gov. John Baldacci will deliver the oath of office to all 186 legislators today to officially begin the duties of the 124th Legislature.

Both chambers will then elect presiding officers, with Rep. Hannah Pingree, D-North Haven, expected to be named House Speaker, and Sen. Elizabeth Mitchell, D-Vassalboro, expected to be named Senate president.

At 2 p.m., the House and Senate will meet in a joint convention to choose constitutional officers and the state auditor.

After today, the Legislature will not meet again until early January.
