A Portland man faces felony charges after allegedly swinging a hatchet at a man who was following him after a car burglary.
A man told police that he and another person spotted someone breaking into his car at 814 Congress St. at 11 p.m. Monday, confronted him and the burglar ran off. The other witness followed the man to Vaughn and Brackett streets while the victim directed police there.
At the intersection, the alleged burglar removed a hatchet from his belt and swung twice at his pursuer, but did not hit him, police said.
Police arrived and arrested Jonathan Doyle, 22, on charges of burglary to a car, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and possession of burglary tools.
