CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -The University of Maine dropped a 73-50 women's basketball decision at Harvard on Sunday afternoon at the Lavietes Pavilion in Cambridge, Mass. Maine fell to 2-7 on the season, while Harvard improved to 6-4.
Kristin Baker led Maine with 16 points, while Samantha Wheeler pulled down a team-best eight rebounds.
Emma Markley tossed in a game-high 19 points, while Emily Tay chipped in with 14 points. Markley notched a double-double as she also ripped down 14 rebounds.
Maine stayed close with Harvard throughout the first five minutes of the game and used a jumper from Amanda Tewksbury to trim the Black Bears' deficit to 12-7 with 14:42 remaining. However, the Crimson went on a 20-7 run over the next eight minutes to open up a 32-14 advantage. The surge was aided by eight-straight points from Finelli. Maine fought back and cut the deficit to 10 at 34-24 with 3:45 remaining on a three-pointer from Tanna Ross. Harvard, again, responded and closed out the half on a 7-2 run to take a 41-26 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Baker paced Maine with 10 points in the opening 20 minutes, while Finelli and Markley netted 10 apiece for the Crimson.
