SKOWHEGAN - An Anson man remained behind bars Monday night after his arrest early Sunday on charges of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, domestic violence assault and simple assault, police said.

Joshua Woodbury, 30, was arrested after allegedly assaulting his live-in female companion and for allegedly threatening a 21-year-old friend with a hammer, Lt. Carl Gottardi of the Somerset County Sheriff's Department said.

"Our office received a call from Madison Paper Co. security saying that there was a female subject that had shown up that had reportedly been assaulted and needed medical attention," Gottardi said.

"The alleged assault actually happened in Anson. The victim was a 59-year-old female from Anson who had reported head injuries."

Deputy David Cole and a Madison police officer went to the Anson home where the attacked allegedly occurred and arrested Woodbury.

Gottardi said the woman fled the home after the attack and tried knocking on doors in Anson, but failing that, went across the bridge to Madison Paper and reported the assault to mill security.

The events unfolded just before 4:30 a.m. Sunday.
