Power back on at Portland Head Light

By Trevor Maxwell Portland Press Herald Staff Writer December 15, 2008 06:16 PM

Electrical power has been restored to the light at Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth.

This morning, the light was only running at partial brightness, on a backup battery, said Sean Walsh of the U.S. Coast Guard Aids to Navigation team in South Portland.

CMP restored the power this afternoon.

Mariners depend on Portland Head Light, and nearby lights such as Spring Point and Ram Island Ledge, to navigate the channel that leads in and out of Portland Harbor.

The outage did not cause any navigational problems, Walsh said.
