WELLS -- Police are warning the public to be vigilant about door-to-door scams in the wake of the ice storm.
Police say the scammers appear after ice storms and other emergencies, offering home repair services, including tree trimming.
Their tactics can include agreeing to a price before performing the job but demanding more after completion and claiming that the resident will be in danger unless the work is done immediately.
Police say that sometimes scammers will offer to shovel off roofs, a job that can cause more harm if done improperly. The person may then try to sell the homeowner a roof job.
The Police Department advises people who have questions or believe they have been victims of such scams to call their local police.
