PASSADUMKEAG, -- State Police have made an arrest in the beating and rape of a 60-year-old woman nearly two months ago at her home in Passadumkeag.

The arrest of 38-year-old Derwin Springer Jr. on charges of sexual assault and burglary was announced today in Bangor by Penobscot County District Attorney Chris Almy. Springer, who was from the local area, is being held in the county jail while awaiting an initial court appearance early next week.

Almy said DNA evidence taken from the victim linked Springer to the attack.

Passadumkeag is a community of about 440 people about 15 miles north of Old Town. The Oct. 29 attack had prompted state police to warn area residents to lock their doors, keep their lights on and report any suspicious activity.
