The storm has passed, the sun is shining (in downtown Portland) but there is still a lot of cleanup to do, as is evident by the picture of a meter on Congress Street, nearly buried in snow.

If you think we haven't seen this kind of snow in years, you're right. The snow that fell from this wicked Nor'easter broke a 75-year-old record for Dec. 21. In 1933, it was set with a maximum snowfall level at 12.4 inches. The storm dumped a record of 14.5 inches for yesterday's date at the Portland International Jetport before it was through.
Indeed, most of Maine got a good 14 to 18 inches, but it seems like so much more with the way the snowbanks are building and the snow is blowing. Drive slow, take your time and dress warm.
A windchill in the negative numbers and gusts up to 50 mph are in store for today.
