By The Associated Press wire report December 23, 2008 09:03 AM

AUGUSTA -- Home heating prices keep going down in Maine. The state energy office says Maine's statewide average cash price for No. 2 heating oil is $2.36 per gallon -- down 7 cents since last week.

Energy Director John Kerry says the demand for oil nationwide has dropped to its lowest level in 12 years. Kerry says consumers of heating oil are now paying more than $2 per gallon less than they would have in June.

Across Maine, heating oil prices ranged from a high of $2.60 per gallon in the eastern region to a low of $1.84 per gallon in the southwestern region.

The statewide kerosene price average is $2.85 per gallon, and the propane average is $2.78 per gallon.
