Gas below $1.60 in central Maine

Regular gasoline is costing less than $1.60-a-gallon at several stations, including a handful in central Maine, according to the Web site MaineGasPrices.com.

The cheapest gas is $1.54 at Sam's Club in Scarborough, according to the Web site, and then $1.55 at several stations in South Portland.

Locally, it's $1.55 at Peaslee's Quick Stop in Jefferson; and $1.59 at the Irving in Newport and Patterson's Store in Burnham.

The average price in Maine today is $1.73, according to the Web site. A month ago it was $1.98 and a year ago it was $3.02.
