Fire extinguished at Madison Paper Industries

MADISON - Fire crews from Madison, Anson and Starks responded to a fire alarm at Madison Paper Industries Wednesday morning.

The fire, at the dryer end of the paper machine, was put out by employees before firefighters got there, Madison Fire Chief Roger Lightbody Sr. said.

"It was minor, caused by some welding," Lightbody said, adding that crews from the three towns respond automatically when there is a fire of any sort at the paper mill.

"They had it out by the time we got there," he said.

The call came through the regional communications center in Skowhegan just after 8 a.m.
