Portland police search for robbery suspects

By David Hench Portland Press Herald Staff Writer January 05, 2009 12:02 PM

Portland police are searching for two people who attacked and robbed an elderly man in a hotel elevator over the weekend.

The 75-year-old man had gone for a walk Friday evening and encountered a man and a woman in the area of the Eastland Park Hotel. In both instances, he had casual conversation with the individuals.

When he returned to the Eastland Park Hotel the two followed him into a hotel elevator and after the doors closed, punched him, police said.

The attackers apparently broke the man's nose and stole a small amount of money from him, police said.

When the elevator doors opened, an employee saw the couple run and the elderly man on the floor, police said.

Rescue workers treated the man.

The female suspect is described as white, about 5-foot-6, in her late 30s to early 40s, with long brown hair and acne scars on her face.

The male suspect is described as white, about 6 feet tall and heavyset and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone with information is asked to call: 874-8596.
