Storm arriving Wednesday could dump 6 inches

By David Hench Portland Press Herald Staff Writer January 06, 2009 01:10 PM

The National Weather Service in Gray has issued a winter storm watch for the region for Wednesday as snow and possibly sleet and freezing rain hammer the state.

The winter storm watch is in effect from Wednesday morning into Wednesday night and areas could receive six inches or more of snow.

The storm will begin over southern New Hampshire early Wednesday and move north through the day.

The storm is the result of a low-pressure system moving across the Great Lakes region tonight and early Wednesday, with a warm front extending from the system's eastern edge.

Snow is expected to be heaviest in the afternoon.
