NEW VINEYARD - A fire that may have started near a chimney of a four-year-old house at 406 Church Street heavily damaged the home of John and Alyce Cavanaugh, according to Fire Chief Doug Churchill.

The 11:20 p.m.fire brought out about 30 firefighters from five towns to battle the blaze that was brought under control by about 3:30 a.m. The home had heavy water and smoke damage and some structural damage, he said.

An inspector from the Fire Marshal's Office is at the scene to determine the cause.
