UPDATE: Wells woman charged with attempted murder of husband cameraicon2.jpg

Kimberly Spampinato was charged today with attempting to murder her husband while he slept in their Wells apartment early Thursday morning.

Spampinato, 42, allegedly doused her husband, Christopher Spampinato, with gasoline, and lit it using rolled up paper and a lighter.

Christopher Spampinato, 39, suffered burns over 85 percent of his body and is now being treated at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he is fighting for his life.

At an initial court appearance today, Kimberly Spampinato was charged with attempted murder and arson. She was ordered held without bail pending a hearing on a charge of violating conditions of her bail from a domestic violence incident that occurred in October.

District Court Judge John O'Neil set bail at $750,000 cash pending a bail revocation hearing next week. He also ordered Spampinato to undergo a mental evaluation.

WELLS -- Authorities say a man who was burned when his wife set fire to their apartment in Wells is fighting for his life in a Boston hospital.

Neighbors say 39-year-old Christopher Spampinato was on fire when he ran from the building and that he rolled in snow to put out the flames. He suffered burns over 85 percent of his body and is now being treated at Massachusetts General Hospital.

According to police and fire investigators, Kimberly Spampinato used a flammable liquid to set the fire while her husband slept early Thursday.

She turned herself in after the fire and was charged with arson and with violating bail conditions related to a domestic violence arrest in October.
