The Maine Audio Information Reading Service (Maine AIRS) of the Iris Network will temporarily begin broadcasting exclusively on the Internet Sunday.
Maine AIRS volunteer readers present local news from Maine's daily and weekly newspapers and periodicals for individuals who are visually impaired, blind or print handicapped.
Listeners who have been using the SAP signal broadcast by MPBN television will need to access the signal through the Iris Network's Web site by visiting www.theiris.org and clicking on the Maine AIRS logo.
In response to a federal mandate to broadcast digitally, Maine Public Broadcasting will turn off its analog TV
transmitters early Sunday morning. This requires Maine AIRS to switch to the SCA signals of Maine Public Radio.
When the new SCA broadcast facilities are ready to go live, Maine AIRS listeners will receive an SCA receiver
from The Iris Network. Call 1-800-715-0097 for information about the new broadcast system and about how to obtain a receiver.
