State Police plan to hold a news conference today to announce an arrest in the death of Kelly Gorham, an Alfred woman whose body was found buried in northern New Hampshire, on land owned by her ex-fiancee's father.

Gorham, 30, was a nursing student who had broken off an engagement with Jason Twardus less than two months before she disappeared on Aug. 7, 2007.

A private investigator hired by Twardus' father to clear the younger man said he removed himself from the case because he came to believe that Jason Twardus may have been involved. Sid Carlson said his conclusion was based on several factors, including the fact that Gorham's body was found on land that his father owned in Stewartstown, N.H.

Police interviewed Twardus but he had not been charged.

Because her body was found in New Hampshire, authorities in that state have been the primary investigators on the case.

Maine State Police investigators are holding a news conference at 3:30 p.m. at the police barracks in Gray to announce the arrest.

No other details were immediately available.
