Gorham man pleads guilty to drug smuggling

By Trevor Maxwell Portland Press Herald Staff Writer January 12, 2009 03:38 PM

A Gorham man pleaded guilty in federal court today on a charge of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute marijuana.

John Pascucci, 51, also known as "Scoochy," faces a maximum sentence of life in prison, and a fine of up to $8 million. Pascucci entered his plea at federal court in Bangor, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Prosecutors say that between 2003 and 2006, Pascucci conspired with others to bring marijuana into Maine from Canada, across the St. John River.

The criminal investigation was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, with assistance from the Maine State Police, the Aroostook County Sheriff's Office, and the Madawaska Maine Police Department.
