The spokeswoman for former U.S. Rep. Tom Allen's campaign to unseat U.S. Sen. Susan Collins has been hired as communications director by Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle.

Carol Andrews, 46, spent a year handling media relations for the Portland Democrat's effort to defeat Collins, an incumbent Republican who won a third term.

Andrews' career includes positions as a radio and newspaper reporter in her home state of Tennessee, service at Cumberland University, consulting with manufacturers, nonprofits and political campaigns, and work for several members of Congress and state officials in a number of states.

"Carol is highly accomplished in communications and media relations," Gov. Doyle said in a prepared statement. "Her good work will be an asset to the state of Wisconsin."
