Northern Maine faces 47-below wind chill tonight

AUGUSTA -- Forecasters are warning that wind chills could make it feel like 47 below zero in some parts of northern Maine as a cold blast hits the state.

The National Weather Service is posting a wind chill advisory today for portions of northern Maine. The Arctic cold front is accompanied by wind gusts that could drop wind chills to 29 below in far northern Maine today and as low as minus-47 tonight in places like Allagash and Madawaska.

In western Maine, highs could get into the single digits today, but the wind will chill the air to 20 below or so.

Farther south, highs are expected to get into the teens today, but it'll drop below zero overnight.
