Snowmobiler rescued from Sebec Lake

By The Associated Press wire report February 14, 2009 03:47 PM

SEBEC - A 33-year-old Acton man is recuperating from mild hypothermia after being rescued by three friends when his snowmobile broke through thin ice on Sebec Lake.

The Maine Warden Service says Scott Davis was pulled from the lake Friday night by his fellow riders, Steve McCullan of Portland, Joe Muce of Acton and Todd Davis of Sanford.

Warden Dan Carroll said the three formed a human chain and held on to each others' ankles to get a tow strap to Scott Davis and pull him from the water.

The incident occurred near the outlet to the Sebec River, which Carroll describes as "a treacherous spot." It's a few hundred yards from where a teenager died last February while snowmobiling in inclement weather to a friend's house for a sleepover.
