Police identify second home robbery suspect

HARTLAND -- Police on Monday released the name of the second suspect they are searching for in connection with the armed robbery of a local home last week.

An arrest warrant has been issued for 19-year-old David McGregor, whose last known address was on Route 23 in Hartland, said Lt. Carl Gottardi, head of the Somerset County Sheriff's Office detective division.

The other suspect, Gary Page, 26, of Canaan, was arrested last Thursday -- less than 24 hours after the robbery occurred -- after police executed a search warrant at his Hubbard Road residence. Page was charged him with Class A armed robbery and held on $250,000 cash bail.

Gottardi said police have been following up on leads on McGregor's whereabouts, but "we are aware there are persons helping him," possibly by allowing him to hide out at a residence. Gottardi said that anyone found to be knowingly harboring and concealing McGregor could be charged with hindering apprehension of the suspect.

McGregor, who is described as 5 feet tall, 130 pounds, with short brown hair and hazel eyes, "is from the area and we've had numerous dealings with him in the past," Gottardi said.

McGregor was charged several times in separate cases last year. On June 22, he was arrested and charged for his alleged role in the burglary of a home and theft of a four-wheeler and dirt bike, along with 16 counts of motor vehicle burglary and theft. He was charged additionally with violating the conditions of release, as he was out on bail for alleged car theft. On April 28, he was arrested on a charge of unauthorized use of property.

Police allege that Page's and McGregor's motive for the robbery was to steal a stash of marijuana from the home's occupants. During a search of Page's residence, police said they found marijuana, pills, drug paraphernalia, cameras and other property.

The home robbery was reported by the occupants at 12:35 a.m. Police allege Page and McGregor, wearing masks and carrying a knife and wooden club, forced open the entry door to the residence. Inside were three people -- a married couple and their teenage son, police said. The husband got into a scuffle with the robbers and cut his hand, police said, he was later treated and released from Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield.

Page and McGregor took off running into the woods and came out onto Old County Road, where police believe they got into a parked vehicle and drove away.
Gottardi said the sheriff's office will file its incident reports this week with the district attorney's office, which will determine if additional charges should be filed either against the suspects, or the Hartland residents for apparently possessing drugs.

Police asked that anyone with information about McGregor's whereabouts to call the sheriff's office at 474-9591.
