SEARSPORT -- Two people have died in an early morning fire today at a home in Searsport.

Steve McCausland, a spokesman for the state Fire Marshal's Office, identified the victims as 80-year-old Eli LaPointe and his 28-year-old stepdaughter, Megan Senter.

Investigators said that LaPointe and Senter died from smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at LaPointe's home on 14 Porter St.

LaPointe's body was found on the floor of his bedroom; Senter's body was found in a living room recliner.

There were three smoke detectors inside the home, but investigators said the batteries had been removed.

The fire started in an electrical power strip that had been covered with clothing.
