Two hurt in Fairfield crash

FAIRFIELD $ Two people were taken to the hospital Tuesday night after a three-vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of Old Center and Norridgewock roads, Sgt. Matthew Bard said.

The accident occurred when a 1997 Buick being driven north on Norridgewock Road by Laurie Dore, 49, of Waterville, was attempting to turn left on Old Center Road, Bard said.

Behind the Buick, also traveling north, was a 1999 Ford Taurus being driven by Alan Swasey, 59, of Skowhegan, he said. Traveling north behind the Taurus was a 2005 GMC truck driven north by Chad Dow, 24, of Fairfield, he said.

"It appeared that the Buick was starting to make a left-hand turn onto the Old Center Road," he said. "We're not sure whether the Buick was hit by the Ford or the Ford was hit by the GMC and was shoved into the Buick."

"We believe it was just a three-car chain," he said. "I don't believe there will be any charges."

Swasey and his wife, passenger Karen Swasey, 53, were taken by Delta Ambulance to Thayer Unit, MaineGeneral Medical Center, in Waterville, according to Bard. He said they suffered non life-threatening injuries.

Dow was alone in the GMC truck; Amie Cates, 27, of Oakland, was in the front passenger seat of the Buick and a 1-year-old baby was in the rear seat of that car, Bard said.

"She was in a child safety seat and there were no injuries there," he said.
He said the Buick and Taurus were destroyed; he did not have information about the status of the truck.

"The Taurus was torn up quite bad and they're real lucky," he said.
