On top of that, there are often layoffs, pay and benefit cuts — and not surprisingly, a drop in morale. All of this has already happened at the Press Herald, Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel newspapers, once independent voices in Maine and now owned by a Seattle chain. These newspapers are shadows of their former selves.
I know about these changes first hand. I've worked at all of the above-named newspapers at various times.report abuse

It's sad to see an independent, locally-owned voice, The Times Record, fall into the hands of a chain, even a smallish one. Unfortunately, newspapers sold to bigger fish seem to get more generic, less nervy — they go "news lite."

I guess the 'majority' is illiterate or Darren would have written 'you're' and not your; which explains why he attacks people instead of issues or political positions.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but "liberal" is certainly not reflective of mainstream America, except in education and mass media.
I know that some folks might hold onto that idea of liberal, progressive, etc, being the common bond in this nation, but that's only because the media keep saying it, keep repeating the leftist lies in the hope that they might somehow turn to truth. Fortunately, enough rationality still prevails in this nation to see through the liberal bias that infects so many newspapers, television stations and magazines.report abuse
