Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to live for free, the wretched refuse of your teeming social programs, send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me...... for we have no residency requirements and award-winning housing and payment programs to provide for your every need.

And unemployment barely pays the rent, let alone any other bills.report abuse

It has been this way for many years. About 20 or more years ago, an article in a govermental-related type trade journal touted Maine, and Portland specifically, as having one the best welfare programs in the country. The result was the influx of people from all over the country, who were "offered the opportunity" to relocate; by the welfare offices in their towns who bought them one way bust tickets to Portland. And it hasn't changed any in 20 years. Now the US is handing out billions of dollars to illegals and I can't find a job that pays enough to get by.
