btw - The head of DHHS makes almost $100,000 a year. You think she's going to take a pay cut to help continue services to the truly needy in this time of shrinking revenue?

There's also a large bureaucracy that derives it's living from the public trough.
But the first step for the politicians is to attack the least able to defend themselves and the most helpless......as you said, to soften the public up for tax increases.report abuse

"I truly believe that politicians make these moves to FRIGHTEN the masses so they'll be more willing to WANT another tax! " - Nonny, that's exactly why they do it. Also because it's more difficult to actually dig in and reform broken programs so that the money spent is used well by those truly in need.

God bless all the foster parents, but as someone posted, the really good ones do NOT do it for the money and they WILL find a way to continue doing what they love. It's a shame that government's priorities are out of whack, but that seems to be the case nationwide.report abuse

Why is the good governor of Maine talking about cutting services to foster families BEFORE he talks about ending vision and dental care to poor adults w/ no children (for example)? I truly believe that politicians make these moves to FRIGHTEN the masses so they'll be more willing to WANT another tax!

the foster care rates should be increased, not decreased! if the DHHS (or whatever it is today) can not manage their money properly (see: computer system, a total disaster to the state) like a normal business, then the morons who run DHHS should be terminated. DHHS is the WORST run business in the state! the system should exist, but it should be run by, ummm.. actual professionals!report abuseYou must be a registered user of MaineToday.com to post a comment.
