BPA has been known to cause hormonal imbalances in mammals since the 1930s. Ultimately, only corporate greed has allowed it's use in FOOD GRADE plastics since then.report abuseRichard Hertz

One of the more common plastics that readily releases BPA is polycarbonate. Other plastics such as High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) do not leach noticable levels of chemicals. Liquids do not necessarily need to be hot in order for leaching to occur. The evidence available is conflicting as to whether or not BPA is harmful to humans but it does cause a number of health issues in lab mice used in experiments. Unfortunately all of the popular clear and color-tinted Nalgene bottles are made of the BPA-leaching polycarbonate. However, the unclear, opaque nalgene bottles (i.e. the old-school white ones) are made of HDPE, which does not leach detectable levels of BPA or other chemicals. Some quick searches on the web will yield similar information and from reputable sources, including WebMD.report abuseJane

IDGARA, then what do you suppose the baby who lost his/her mother at birth, car accident or cancer should do? Grant it we ALL know it is healthier for a child to be breast fed, you would have to be in idiot to not realize that. But not everyone CAN and not all scenerio's have the option, especially adopted children, foster children...on and on. Not everyone is in a situation where they can be home all the time, living off of their spouses income. It is ignorant to make such a comment like people don't already know that breastfeeding is best. Glass sounds like an option, or maybe disposables???report abuseYou must be a registered user of MaineToday.com to post a comment. Register or log in.
