I wouldn't have a problem with this if the money was going to help hard working people who were unable to make ends meet because of the high cost of heating oil.

Unfortunately, this is Maine, and most of this is likely going to non-working people, very few of which are elderly or handicapped and DESERVE the help.

Another $5 million down the welfare rathole. Maybe if they were cold they'd get off their asses.....oh wait, we know they won't, we had that family in December who were sitting home in short sleeves whining because they were almost out of fuel and they needed someone to GIVE them more.

It's disgusting.report abuse

It's sad that politicians don't listen to the worries, complaints and concerns that average, everyday Mainers have.

When I worked felony probation/parole, I couldn't get INS to come and pick up any illegal (convicted of a felony) even though I had him in handcuffs in my office. And when I called Social Security Admin to notify them that someone receiving SSI was going to jail (and shouldn't be getting any money), NOT once in 3 years did the administration ever stop the checks. Family members simply cashed the checks while the offender was in jail.

ROBERT STILLINGS is the person in Maine you can report welfare fraud to...207.287.2409. Additonally, you should make a call to the Fraud Investigation and Recovery Unit of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services during normal business hours at 287-2409.

If the "welfare day" of the month is as it is here, there are lines of women waiting in line with their hair done, their nails painted, talking on cell phones, wearing "bling" and almost always with a boyfriend standing nearby just waiting for the check. THESE are the people who turn hardworking people off to welfare...report abuse

Giving to the elderly is one thing but giving to those who already get most everything is a bit much. The working class familys are the ones in need!!!!

Way to go State of Maine, our motto should be "the state of giving to those who play the system"!!!report abuse

The state should cut of people after being on TANF for 5 years. Do not pay them for car repairs or insurance that would save tax papyers about $800 a year. How about the ones who only have thier kids on tanf and not themselves so they do not have to do any type of work. How about money spent on cigarettes , alochol, and pot? the state should stop this abuse.report abuse
