stopthewar, I'll meet you half way on your comment. It's probably safe to assume that every member of Congress has stock in his portfolio, and oil stock is most surely included. They make money every time MOBIL posts a 40.6 BILLION dollar profit (as they just did). Their re-election is not assured and they are merely padding their retirement checks. If you think the immediate price issues will be solved soon you are in a dream world. Politicians could not care less about the cost of energy to you.report abuse

Zipster, you can sit around the campfire and sing QumBaya all you want. The reality is that alternative energy sources may work and/or be viable but they are years off simply because there is so much bickering now. Ted Kennedy whined about wind towers near his house because of the view. It happened here in Lincolnville last year. We are an oil-based economy, no matter what your liberal mind wants to think, and we need oil now. I say drill in ANWAR, off Florida, and anyplace else that we can.report abuse

If Bush and his family(and others) were not in bed with the Saudi's, we may likely have gone further in our goal over the last 8 yrs. to become nondependant on oil.
The Bush family and others like them, will fight tooth and nail to always be dependant on the Saudis for that is where they make their millions every year.
The Bush's have been in bed with them for years and years. ,
Our own presidents(W and his daddy) screwing the American people every chance they get.
That should be a CRIMINAL act!report abuse

There is no one technology that will substitute for fossil fuel. But if we put half the money and effort put into waging war to secure our oil interests we would have power to spare. Wind when its windy, Solar when the sun shines, tidal power, geothermal and traditional methods of producing electricity until we can further develop these alternative technologies. Strip malls, hosipitals and office buildigns could easily provide their own power to cool or heat when the sun shines or the wind blows - which is a decent percentage of the year. Emerging solar technologies don't even require direct sunlight - amazing where a little research can get you. Oil is a dead end street - find an alternate route before it is too late. C'mon, there is a ton of cash to be made with alternative energy - time to move ahead.report abuse
