After all the other poor efforts on the water districts' part have fallen through (Offering to re-locate the boat launch in a lousy area, crummy land offers, etc.) they have now decided to bully their way ahead with eminent domain which will undoubtedly cost the citizens of Standish even more tax dollars. Why not relocate the intake pipes further out in a deeper part of the lake and keep the launch open? It would probably be cheaper in the long run than all the money that has been spent fighting over this issue for all these years now. With every visit to the launch you can see the continual squeeze the district puts on the area and access to it. Fences, much less parking and now this. With the few spots for the public to access this lake already why not be a good neighbor for a change and relocate the intakes and leave the launch where it is? Relocating the intakes to deeper water will result in better and safer water for the districts' customers as well finally looking less like the big bully and being a good neighbor for a change.report abuse

It is most unfortunate that PWD plays the bully in town affairs. Looking at the history, their attitude has been extremely aggressive and sometimes deceitful. Land taken by eminent domain has been harvested for timber, and now I understand parcels outside of the 2-mile limit (off Pilgrim Road) may be resold for condo development.

It is no wonder to me that the town continues to fight with them on any proposal.report abuse

Twice the residents of this town (excluding myself and others) were convinced that "we can do better" than the PWD's offer to relocate the boat launch and provide land for rec use. All I have seen since is my taxes go up to pay for town lawyers to fight PWD and purchase what has been determined to be un-usable land for a rec center. Now we'll continue to keep the lawyers employed as this will certainly end up in Maine's court system(s). Nice.................report abuse
