The method used(attaching it to a spending bill) to ram this poorly conceived law through bothered me. The fact the feds are expecting the states to fund it bothers me.
Come up with a better plan and maybe I will back it. Knee jerk legislation very rarely does what it aims to do and often creates more problems than it solves.
So much for the party of smaller government and more self determination. What a bunch of hypocrits.report abuse

The state rejected the ID. There should be no reason to ask for a waiver. Collins should be representing us not working against us.

Gerald Weinand of Rockland, ME: my statement was of my frustration with the meatball organization and how it is dragging its feet. We need a national ID system, as communistic as it sounds to keep the illegals at bay. A country without borders, language and culture is well....France, I guess. Weak.report abuseGerald Weinand

Not quite sure what you mean. REAL ID was a bill sponsored by and passed by a GOP Congress and signed into law by Bush.
The hand rubbing that you describe is Collins trying to get her fingerprints off of it.report abuse

Yes, albeit three years too late.
She is still the ranking Republican on the HS&GA Committee - why doesn't she ask her good friend Joe Lieberman to hold some hearings about it?report abuse
