Evidently we had run out of storage space at the old one. We can put kids into portable classrooms at the middle school but we can't put files into portable storage rooms at the police station. Now we just HAVE to have a new elementary school. We'll end up tearing down the two existing schools, instead of converting the nicer of the two into a police station. You know, cost of conversion greater than new construction, etc. etc. etc. It all makes too much sense to make sense.report abuse

We just HAD to have a new $3,000,000 "green" police station. The one where they cut down acres of trees and blasted out tons of ledge.

(Falmouth expects to receive about $35 million in state funding for the new school,)
They have plenty, haven't you read the rest of today's paper? From confiscating neglected gift cards. What? They want to let YOU get five bucks cash back not the Government? Oh, Sorry, I suppose they'll have to tax you for the 35 mil then. Hope you don't mind. A sandwich in O'Naturals in Famouth costs $8 so they're a little tapped out there, I'm sure you won't mind higher taxes in Central Maine to help out a little. School's not made of straw you know.report abuse

Are we building the Taj Mahal of Falmouth?
Is it utilitarian in design, or a statement of wealth?

It amazes me how much a school costs.
