One of the purposes is "to draw attention to them". Why would we want to draw attention to some ugly oil tanks? They're an eyesore, symbolic of our civilizations' adverse effects on the environment. What do you think they'll choose to gussy them up... a lighthouse (how original!) or a faux-landscape to replace the beautiful real one that we could've been looking at instead?report abuseBILL Legere

The cost of this will be huge!
Hopefully it's not going to be some kind of horrid looking fake landscape! The design should reflect the need to replace what's in the tanks!Bahahaha Unfortunatly my ideas probably wouldn't fly ! ;)report abuse

As an Artist I love the idea, but isn't there more important things on the Maine agenda that needs improving?

Let's make sure the winning design has a theme of diversity! Wouldn't want a repeat of the Seadogs statue fiasco, now would we?report abuseYou must be a registered user of MaineToday.com to post a comment. Register or log in.
