I fear Hannaford has lost many customers. I do not believe this is bothering them one iota. Emergency legistation (retroactive) should be passed to force Hannaford to repay the banks and credit unions every last penny they have had to pay out over this. Ultimately it is the customers of the institutiions who suffer because the institutions don't have the $$$ available that they would have had. I know some of them are insured for this type of thing and that helps. The bottom line is that Hannaford DOES NOT care about what happened. It was not just the security breech but the fact that they were holding customer information for marketing purposes...info that should have been immediately destroyed once the card was used. They were stockpiling information illegally...where is the state AG's office on this? I know Cuddy and Lanham attys out of Bangor are starting a suit...now the fun begins.report abuse

Just the fact that there hasn't been a public apology from Hannaford turns me off to shopping there anymore. I hope they suffer financially for their arrogance. I'll do my part to make it happen.report abuse

What price does Hannaford pay for this? NOTHING!!! If Maine legislators want to be constructive, a new law should be on the books requiring companies to report security breeches within 7 business days. The Maine AG should also be following this to make sure that this "mistake" does not happen again. This happened because Hannaford was cheap about its data security (if they even had a policy in place, that is). A boycott does nothing; it increases the chance of this type of breech happening at another store. Enforceable laws need to be on the books to compensate shoppers and financial institutions for their inconvenience and loss.report abuse
