I'll also note that while Snowe and Collins, and Clinton and Obama all voted to stop the filibuster, John McCain couldn't bother to be in D.C. to vote.

McCain is such a maverick.report abuse

Nonny1 of Gainesville, FL:

You have, of course, actually read about the case in question, right? The SCOTUS didn't strike down any laws; it just said that Ms. Ledbetter hadn't acted fast enough to make her claim.

Let me ask you: do you know now, or when you did work, what your co-workers made? In higher level corporate jobs, salaries are held very secret, and so in the case of Ms. Ledbetter, it took her years to realize that she had been underpaid compared to her male colleagues, while having the same responsibility.

Perhaps she was stupid, as you surmise. But what is more likely is that she was duped by a system in which gender played a large part.

The SCOTUS ruling said that current law sets a statute limit for when claims can be brought. The bill in question revises that limit, as was recommended by most legal scholars immediately after the SCOTUS ruling.report abuse

Mr. Allen, perhaps you should read some FACTS about the wages of women and men instead of all that hype that does not take into account the types of jobs women CHOOSE and men CHOOSE (but then compares those salaries). Those stats also do not consider time off for pregnancy (voluntary), raising children (also voluntary) and taking care of sick and elderly parents/relatives (again, voluntary). The FACTS below are the most current (2007) and contain no hype.

We women are not always weak and we are not always victims. Heck, we graduate high school more often than boys and we are now filling most of the college seats. Soon we'll be running the country! And last I checked, no caucasian male can get any job, promotion or into any college due to his gender or race!

And if we ARE a victim of a lousy employer, there are already PLENTY of laws on the books we can use to go after that employer.
